Why we love it
Morokuru Beach Lodge is a luxury and intimate boutique eco-lodge located in the 36,000 ha De Hoop Nature Reserve. Voted ‘Best Resort in South Africa’ in the 2020 Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, this is one of our favourite properties for anyone looking for some slightly ‘alternative’ beach time following a safari or a visit to Cape Town. For those wishing to explore the Garden Route on a self-drive, do not miss out with a 3 night stay at Morokuru for your first stop – De Hoop is just a 3 hour drive from Cape Town. The lodge is made up of 1 Honeymoon Suite and 4 Ocean View Suites,
but there is also a stunning 4 bedroom Ocean House available to take exclusively on the same stretch of coastline. While days could easily be spent at Morokuru Beach Lodge soaking up the endless views of coastal wilderness, there are also all sorts of activities on offer including mountain-biking, fynbos walks, tidal walks, snorkelling, sand-boarding and nature drives. One of the top attractions in the winter months (July-October) is land based whale-watching as the lodge sits right on the Southern Right Whale migration route.
Spot southern right whales in the De Hoop Nature Reserve from the comfort of your room and, if you are lucky, whale calves in the winter months of July to October.
Glide down the bright white sand dunes of the De Hoop Reserves overlooking the ocean.
Discover sea anemones, starfish and other marine treasures walking down the pristine and protected coastline of the De Hoop Nature Reserve.
Dive in the warm waters of the reserve, located just east of Cape Agulhas, and explore protected rock pools and the treasures they keep.
Morukuru is surrounded by fynbos and sand dunes, making it the perfect place to explore this landscape and floral kingdom on foot.
Ride across the De Hoop Nature Reserve on mountain bikes and stop to enjoy the oceanic views that will open up before you.
Join a nature drive exploring the western area of the reserve and the fynbos vegetation, or the vlei, and spot flamingos, ostrich, eland and zebra.
After a scenic tidal walk, unwind the day with a soothing massage, before settling in for a fine dining experience.

Absolutely amazing holiday. Garonga is heaven! We did everything possible and our guide was brilliant and hilarious. I can definitely recommend True Travel for their excellent advice and professionalism – they clearly are very knowledgeable about where they send their clients and made sure we had a worry-free holiday that perfectly suited us. We were particular grateful for the collection off our flight and help onto our transfer in Johannesburg, which included a very nifty queue jump due to their reputation!
