Miavana
Nosy Ankao, Madagascar
Why we love it
Miavana quite simply sets new bars of what to expect from a beach lodge in the Indian Ocean. At odds to other accommodation options, Time & Tide Conservation have created a property of the highest standards of luxury which at the same time is firmly linked to its location. This is not just another luxury beach destination, but a project of ambitious proportions hard to comprehend.
The villas are set along the powder white sand of the Indian Ocean on the tiny island of Nosy Ankao on the north eastern coast of Madagascar. Vast villas the size of beach houses are set with a low profile amongst palm trees on the end of the beach. Bedrooms feature four poster beds with billowing mosquito nets and there’s a bathroom to get lost in with indoor and outdoor rain showers. Expansive sitting areas flow
from interior to the private pool deck running the full length of the villa.
Each villa features a butler’s pantry with a fully stocked and equipped kitchen. The mini bar is certainly not ‘mini’ and the location options for in-villa dining could keep you busy every day of a week!
The main area of the lodge continues the attention to detail seen in the guest villas. There’s a buzzy cocktail bar with rooftop viewing deck, the relaxed ‘pizza’ restaurant is full of colour with sand floors and vibrant furniture. Tucked back from beach is the cabinet des curiosités featuring an extraordinary collection of Madagascan ‘objets’.

It was fabulous. I was planning to write a message with detailed feedback. It’s a unique place and provided a very special experience for the both of us. The holiday was fantastic and Madagascar is a very special country. Masoala was maybe one of my favourite experiences ever. The lodge and the setting are beautiful, the activities on point.
