Why we love it
Hugely spacious this is a two-bedroom large villa with lots of style, character and charm. Really unique, personal and private and great for friends or a family.
This villa features stunning campaign-style décor. You’ll feel like you’re truly in the bush home of a well-travelled military man; it certainly has a very “Out of Africa” feel to it. With brass-bound furniture, oriental carpets, and a beautiful Knole sofa in front of an open fire, you feel a connection with a bygone era of comfort and style.
The Colonel’s House is built on two floors, there are two large bedrooms on the upper floor where you can choose king or twin beds. Both are luxuriously comfortable with delightfully soft bedding.
Each of the bedrooms has a large private terrace, accessed through double glass doors to enjoy and absorb the panoramic views. They also feature dressing rooms, sunken baths, and a roofless shower room. In the passageway between the bedrooms there’s a fine example of hand-made Kitengela stained glass. A sweeping staircase leads to the sitting room – a great place for pre-dinner drinks and after-dinner storytelling. Across the courtyard is the dining room which is decorated with antique maps and where you can have intimate meals together. Outside on the large terrace there is a small plunge-pool to cool off from the midday sunshine.
Explore everything Laikipia has to offer on a game drive, where you are likely to see huge numbers of elephants, as well as a mix of plains game.
Be taken on a walk in the local area to get up close to the action and learn about the small things that can be missed when you're in a car.
Keen birders will be in paradise as you attempt to tick off the conservation's 150 bird types, with unique species in abundance.
Experience an activity unique to this corner of Kenya as you are lead by Maasai warriors deep into the African wilderness.
Enjoy the thrill of galloping away from elephants and following herds of zebra through the bush on an African horse riding safari.
Stretch your legs on a bike, up hills and through the wilderness, to access parts of Laikipia that can't be seen from a vehicle.
Go out of your comfort zone as you quad bike from the camp to the local Maasai village - a fun and speedy way to get around.
Pay a visit to the three primary schools and secondary school that the lodge has helped build, to see the positive impact on the community.

I went on an adventure of a lifetime to Kenya, planned by True Travel. Borana was the perfect introduction to Africa – the staff were fantastic, the lodge very comfortable and I had amazing wildlife sightings. Then the helicopter flight and night out with Andrew (the real Crocodile Dundee) was an experience of a lifetime; we went scorpion hunting, crocodile catching, swimming in lakes and flew over flamingos. All in all, everything was fantastically planned and the service was brilliant. I’m looking forward to the next adventure!
