Why we love it
With over 60,000 acres of wilderness to explore, Sosian offers a truly unforgettable safari experience.
Sosian lies in Laikipia, in the highlands of Kenya and is a private ranch of 24,000 acres with access to a total of 75,000 acres of game-viewing. Sosian is perhaps best known for our huge array of experiences on offer. Whether you safari by vehicle, horse or foot, you are sure to take home some extraordinary memories. Galloping with giraffe, walking with elephants, tracking lions, or just sitting still and taking it all in, no two days are the same.
Today the original ranch house is now the centre piece of Sosian Lodge, made up of a large sitting room, dining room, bar and billiards room, with an expansive wrap around veranda, offering undisturbed views of the bush beyond. The lodge sleeps 14 with more space in the family cottage for children if needed.
Sosian remains a functioning cattle ranch as well as a luxury safari lodge. There is a wonderful balance between cattle ranching and wildlife conservation that hugely benefits both parties and Sosian is a shining example of how this can be achieved.
There is also a swimming pool, tennis court, and organic vegetable garden, Sosian is well known for its delicious home cooking using fresh ingredients from the garden. Seven cottages lie in the tropical garden overlooking Mount Kenya and miles of unspoiled Africa.
Head out in an open 4x4 with specially raised seats to allow the best wildlife viewing. You might even catch an elephant playing in the mud.
Experience the bush and its nocturnal animals with a spotlight at night, with a chance to encounter leopard and spotted hyena.
For an interesting ride, canter across the varied terrain of the ranch - along tracks, across rivers and through open country.
Get intimate with the bush as an experienced guide teaches you how to follow animal tracks and recognise dung, insects, flora and fauna.
Dine on a bush dinner before spending a night under the stars to be brought closer to the bush, and further from modern frills.
If you are feeling brave enough, jump from the 30-foot high waterfalls into the deep natural pools below for a taste of adrenaline.
Those would rather stay dry whilst experiencing the Ewaso Narok River can paddle around in a kayak, seeing wildlife action as you go.
See what you can catch for your dinner as relax on the river bank with a fishing rod, cold beer, and good book to while away the hours.

I went on an adventure of a lifetime to Kenya, planned by True Travel. Borana was the perfect introduction to Africa – the staff were fantastic, the lodge very comfortable and I had amazing wildlife sightings. Then the helicopter flight and night out with Andrew (the real Crocodile Dundee) was an experience of a lifetime; we went scorpion hunting, crocodile catching, swimming in lakes and flew over flamingos. All in all, everything was fantastically planned and the service was brilliant. I’m looking forward to the next adventure!
