Jahazi House

Lamu

This stunning authentically Swahili house is named after the historical sailing dhows that brought Lamu its trading wealth. As you lounge on the private beach and look out into sea, you can spot the traditional dhows coming and going as they drop off fresh fish to the local market. Designed in the quintessential Swahili architecture, this house is built around a central courtyard which holds the very private swimming pool, which acts as a natural coolant to the bedrooms which open out onto it. It is hard to feel anything other than completely relaxed at Jahazi house, as a cook, a room/table steward, and a laundress eliminate your stresses and take over looking after you during your stay. There are no cars and no roads on Lamu island, only donkey trails, boat rides and leisurely beach strolls. Take out the houses private 38-foot dhow for daytrips, lunch, or some particularly picturesque sundowners.
