This beautifully designed lodge provides the perfect place to sit back and relax after a busy day of adventure around the Tana River Delta. The lodge was built through entirely recycled wood which gives the guest a real sense of location. The scenic secluded location make Delta Dunes a peaceful and relaxing location for either couples or families.
Seven “dune‟ cottages built from driftwood, mangrove poles and thatch. All are open and have spectacular views of the sea, river or both; they are cool and shaded and mosquito nets enclose the double beds at night. The family cottage accommodates 4 people (plus room for extra bed). The cottages are accessed by many steps up the sand dunes. Power is available in all rooms. Bathrooms are large open sun-filled areas; all en-suite with flush toilets, hot and cold running water and powerful showers.
Miles of rippling, rolling sand dunes stand majestically overlooking the creek on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other; fantastic views and exciting game tracking through the sand in the early mornings. Activities include boat cruises for sun-downers and bird and game spotting, bush walks with armed & experienced guides, creek fishing, water skiing, kayaking, tubing, swimming, surfing & sand yachting. Boat trips with the local community on the fresh water river to see hundreds of birds, crocodiles and hippos. Special highlights: exceptional resident and migrant bird life; pods of hippos & crocodile; endemic Tana River bushbuck; buffalo, lion, leopard and elephant can occasionally be seen and tracks usually found on game walks; cultural visits and dances by the local indigenous Pokomo and Orma tribes.
Enjoy a refreshing sundowner as you spot incredible resident and migratory birdlife, as well as crocodiles and hippos along the river.
Follow animal tracks with your local guide through the surrounding wilderness ,where you may be lucky enough to see buffalos and lions.
Fish in the creeks surrounding Delta Dunes, where you have a good chance of catching various sea fish such as trevally that are passing through.
Head out off Kenya's coast when the conditions are calm to test your balance, whilst gliding in and out of the wake behind a speedboat.
Explore the river creeks with a friend as you paddle around in a two-man kayak, looking out for riverside wildlife along the way.
Be taken to Elephant Island where you will be released in your tube and will peacefully float back downstream with a drink in hand.
Swim in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean from the beach just below your dune cottage to explore the underwater world of the Kenyan coast.
Grab a board and catch a wave as you surf the breakers off the Kenyan coast. Just don't stray too close to the river - its croc territory!

I went on an adventure of a lifetime to Kenya, planned by True Travel. Borana was the perfect introduction to Africa – the staff were fantastic, the lodge very comfortable and I had amazing wildlife sightings. Then the helicopter flight and night out with Andrew (the real Crocodile Dundee) was an experience of a lifetime; we went scorpion hunting, crocodile catching, swimming in lakes and flew over flamingos. All in all, everything was fantastically planned and the service was brilliant. I’m looking forward to the next adventure!
