Nxamaseri Island Lodge
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Why we love it
Nxamaseri Island Lodge is a small luxury fishing lodge built on a heavily wooded island in one of the world’s most beautiful wilderness areas. Built by PJ Bestelink, an avid fisherman who pioneered fly-fishing in Botswana. Situated on what is known as the “Panhandle” of the Okavango Delta surrounded by Tranquil river channels and picturesque floodplains. The lodge is now the Deltas premier fly-fishing destination.
The main lodge complex comprises of nine private brick and thatch chalets that are linked to the main lodge by teak boardwalks. Each chalet enjoys a private deck overlooking the water maintaining the lodges intimate atmosphere. Each secluded room is surrounded by indigenous forest providing an opportunity to witness – at close range – the remarkable birdlife that inhabits the tree canopy above.
The lodge offers mainly water-based activities, including boating and mokoro trips among the network of channels that make up this remote area. Nxamaseri is one of the top bird watching and fishing destinations in Botswana and specialises in both, with expert guides guaranteed to make your experience a memorable one. Nxamaseri is also the closest lodge to the magical Tsodilo Hills, one of Botswana’s greatest treasures, and offers guided day trips where one can view some of the hill’s 2000 ancient San paintings.
Nxamaseri Island Lodge is a small, exclusive camp set in the pan handle of the Okavango Delta. One of the oldest camps in the Delta and has its own charm and atmosphere, located on an island in one of the most breathtakingly beautiful areas in the world.

We had the most amazing time! John Barclay and his team were very special and the mobile safari exclusive and superb. Moremi was very quiet with few other tourists – no more than a dozen other vehicles seen in four days. Macatoo was also excellent with good riding and game. We were so grateful for the help that you offered when our BA flights went wrong. Many thanks again for the superb service and recommendations which made for a great holiday.
