The island of Mallorca is a popular summer holiday destination for many Europeans. The northwest side of the island is less visited making it the perfect summer sun escape. The town of Soller is located in a valley just 3km from the northwest coast of the island. Traditionally accessible exclusively by a winding mountain road, the town has retained traditional culture more than other areas on the island. The town itself is built around the main square which is lined with restaurants and boasts an impressive Gaudi inspired church. Visiting the coast is easy, Soller town is connected to the Port de Soller via an old-fashioned tram which trundles down to the beach at regular intervals. Most Memorable
One of my most memorable travel experiences has to be a family trip to Zimbabwe. We went at Christmas time a few years ago and spending Christmas on safari in the middle of Hwange National Park was surreal. Even more special was spotting my first male lion on Christmas Eve, Christmas really did come early that year! We stayed in an authentic, characterful Zimbabwean safari camp, located on the edge of the vast Ngamo Plains. Getting to camp was an experience in itself – aboard the novel Elephant Express. Almost immediately after boarding this dual-engine single tram we saw our first animals roaming the tracks. Stopping anytime an animal was spotted, the train was a fantastic way to journey to camp. If that wasn’t good enough, refreshments were served along the way. A gin and tonic in the afternoon while winding through the African bush is a pretty memorable experience!

My most recent trip was a road trip to Donegal, Ireland. Starting at home in Portrush, Northern Ireland myself and a group of friends made the short journey to Donegal and spent a long weekend exploring the county and visiting a few (of many!) viewpoints. Personal highlights of the trip included wild swimming at Malin Beg, visiting the cliffs of Slieve League and Murder hole beach. More than anything, it was great to spend time with friends on home turf.
